Azerbaijani ruling party: OSCE fact-finding mission must reflect reality

18 March 2011 [11:16] - TODAY.AZ
OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs' visits to the region are necessary to resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

However, there have been so many of these visits, that an image of "tourist visits" has formed in the Azerbaijani society in this regard, said deputy chairman and executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), Ali Ahmedov, the NAP official website reported.

He said the co-chairs assume big tasks and they need to increase efforts to implement them.

"Despite that the OSCE Minsk Group has been acting for about 20 years, it still did not achieve resolution of the conflict through peaceful means. We would like the OSCE Minsk Group to change the image of the "tourists", which has formed about them in Azerbaijan," said Ahmedov.

Regarding the OSCE fact-finding mission’s report submitted by the co-chairs to the sides, Ahmadov said all missions had to reflect the real facts. The reality is that the Azerbaijani lands have been occupied, one million people have been expelled from their homeland and Armenia doesn’t stop its aggression. "Investigation of these facts must lead to the acceleration of the conflict settlement and liberation of the lands from the occupation. Our position is that such missions must lead to soonest solution to the conflict," said Ahmadov.

Ahmadov said that recent killing of a little boy by the Armenian militants was an example of Armenia’s aggressive position. He said Sargsyan’s government tries to distract the international community’s attention from this fact, but they can not achieve their goal. "Azerbaijan informed the world community that the Armenians killed an innocent child. At the same time, the co-chairs have undeniable facts about that. Therefore Sargsyan must acknowledge it," said Ahmadov.
