Azerbaijani central election commission considers appeals on parliamentary elections

The Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan on Monday held a regular meeting under the chairmanship of Mazahir Panahov, the press service of the CEC said.

The meeting reviewed the appeals received in connection with the parliamentary elections in the country on Nov. 7. Two of the requests were not satisfied, the period of consideration for other one was extended, another appeal was returned to the applicant due to the expiration of a statutorily prescribed time period for filing a complaint, the rest were sent to the relevant district election commissions.

The CEC meeting also reviewed current issues. The meeting was held with the participation of the media representatives.

Azerbaijan held the parliamentary elections Nov. 7. The voter turnout hit about 50.14 percent (roughly 2.48 million voters) in Azerbaijan, the CEC's Elections Information Center told Trend.

The CEC reported that 690 candidates are running for the parliamentary elections. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005.
