US former permanent representative in UN: "Execution of the UN Security Council's resolutions on Azerbaijan depends on the will of separate countries"

31 March 2008 [10:17] - TODAY.AZ
The resolutions of the UN Security Council on Nagorno Karabakh conflict, which demand the unquestioned release of the occupied lands, are too symbolic, said US former representative in UN (2001-2006) Sichan Siv.
He said there are many resolutions, including on Cambodia, on the occupation of lands.

"They have been adopted but give no results. This is the reality", the diplomat said.

He noted that the execution of resolutions depends on the will of strong countries.

"You know how many member-states UN includes, and each of them has a right to express its position. But as to genocide, each such act should be condemned. I say it as a man, whose mother, brothers and sisters fell victims of genocide. Therefore, such issues should be kept on the agenda, so that future generations do not repeat such acts", he said.

The diplomat considers that people hope too much for the resolution of conflicts by this organization. He said the United Nations are good for the resolution of global problems of humanity, such as food supply, refugees and internally displaced persons and others.

"I am glad that the United States are the biggest donor of all these problems. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the search of possible ways of the problem settlement", said he.

He said as to the Azerbaijan's possible attainment of the international recognition of Azerbaijanis' genocide in the world: "My mother used to tell me: "No matter what happens, you should never give up".
