NATO does not intend to use any countries for military operations against third countries.
The due announcement was made by Robert Simmons, special representative of the NATO secretary general on the South Caucasus, addressing the Rose Roth seminar of NATO Parliamentary Assembly, held in Baku Friday.
He said the alliance does not intend to use its military potential against any countries, but for combating terror and other global threats.
"NATO does not intend to use any countries for military actions against the third states, we will never use any country to threaten other countries", he noted.
He also expressed satisfaction with relations between NATO and Russia and announced that their cooperation with the South Caucasus countries and Central Asia should not base on competition
"Our relations with the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia should not be regarded as a competition with Russia. Moscow should also base on this position. Each of us have our own interests in these regions and we should not be regarded as opponents in cooperation with these countries", Simmons announced.
At the same time, he noted that NATO does not plan to create a new military base in Uzbekistan.
"Relations between Uzbekistan and NATO are improving but we do not have an opportunity to build any new base in this country, as we do not have a due permission to do it", the special representative concluded.
