Azerbaijan urges Ukraine to initial constituent acts of GUAM

The June summit of GUAM member-states may postpone if Ukrainian Rada does not ratify GUAM documents passed last year. Azerbaijan party officially warned Ukrainian parliament on this issue.

Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov called the members of Ukraine parliament to ratify the mentioned acts as sooner as possible. According to Minister as the documents of GUAM are not ratified the upcoming summit of member states may fail. Elmar Mammadyarov reasoned the motives of not functioning of GUAM Secretary with this issue.

GUAM was legally recognized as international organization in Kiev summit. Ukrainian president Viktor Yushenko submitted the signed documents to parliament for ratification. President said the parliament in the application that ratification of GUAM Charter will enhance Ukraine's role in this organization and GUAM Secretariat in Kiev will turn the capital one of the significant political centers of the world.

According to Ukraine Foreign Ministry annual budget of GUAM was $500 thousand in 2007. Entrance fee for member-states are $60 thousand raising this to $120 thousand in perspective. A membership payment for EU is $3 million.

GUAM states were to decide the staff of peacekeeping forces until March this year. This peacekeeping forces are to replace Russian peacekeeperss in Georgia. APA
