The man accused of knifing Azerbaijan's state-honored pop singer Faiq Agayev said the conflict between him and the singer and his bodyguards “arose on the road as one of the sides refused to give a way to another.”

"I personally had no opportunity to give way. But Faiq’s bodyguards began to insult me. Not paying attention to them, I drove to home. But their car caught me up around my house. Faiq instructed his bodyguards to beat me. My cousin brother and another girl were near me at that time. The bodyguards began to beat them, too. Then for a self-defense, I pulled out a knife and stabbed them,” the accused Rufat Malikov said.

The detainee does not consider himself guilty and has no regrets about his actions. Adalat Dadashov, Head of the Surgery Department at the Clinic Medical Center, where the pop singer has been hospitalized, said the condition of the pop singer and his bodyguards is relatively stable.

"They will be transferred to a normal ward in a few days," Dadashov said.
