Azerbaijan, Korea sign a memorandum of cooperation on agriculture

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abasov has met with a delegation led to Baku by Kim Jong Jin, Director General of South Korea’s Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Ismat Abasov briefed the guests on reforms and progress in the agricultural sector.

Kim Jong Jin added that the documents to be signed between the two countries will open new opportunities for cooperation in the agricultural sector.

"We see great potential in the agricultural sector of Azerbaijan. I am confident that we can expand our relations in this field,” he added.

Then, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation which envisions exchanging expertise and information, carrying out joint activities and promoting cooperation, trade and investment in the private sector etc.

Under the memorandum, the Azerbaijani-Korean Committee will be established for the coordination and development of bilateral cooperation.

The committee will include representatives of governmental and nongovernmental organizations.

Abasov told reporters that that a delegation of Korean businessmen will visit Azerbaijan to get familiarized with Azerbaijan’s potential in the agricultural sector and to identify areas where they would like to take part.

“At the same time, Azerbaijani businessmen will travel to Korea. There will be agribusiness forums on the sidelines of these mutual visits,” he added.

Abasov also said that Azerbaijan intends to attract Korean agricultural firms to the agricultural processing industry, as well as building relations to export agricultural products to Korea.
