Azerbaijan and Turkey to raise trade turnover to $2 billion

20 December 2006 [11:11] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan and Turkey plans to raise the trade turnover to $1 billion by this year's end and double to $2bn in 2007, Azerbaijan-Turkish Business Council chairman Chingiz Gul said.

He said that the trade between the both countries was $500m in 2004 and $800 in 2005. "Turkey considers the level of trade inadequate. We want to increase the trade turnover to $2 billion. Baku-Erzurum and Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalak-Kars routes will increase the commercial relations," he said.

Mr. Gul reaffirmed that Turkish companies will not cooperate with Armenia until the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is settled. "Turkey will not lift the economic embargo imposed on Armenia until the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is restored. Turkey's economic policy is based on this trend," he said, APA reports.
