Georgia to be charged about $170 per 1,000 cu m of gas

15 December 2006 [11:38] - TODAY.AZ
Next year Georgia will pay on average USD 170 per 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas imports, independent expert Giya Khukhashvili told.

He said Georgia will probably pay $130-$180 per 1,000 cu m of 0.8bn cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas from Turkish quota.

Besides, in 2007 Georgian will receive a transit fee of 200m cu m of gas for the South Caucasus (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) Pipeline, additional 50m cu m of gas at the price $58 per 1,000 cu m.

"Georgia will pay on average $131 per 1,000 cu m of Azerbaijani gas next year," he said.

He thinks that for Georgia the average gas prices will reach $170 per 1,000 cu m if Georgia imports Russia gas at $230 per 1,000 cu m as Gazprom demanded.

Khukhashvili insisted that Tbilisi will choose Russian gas imports if Iran and Russia offer the same prices.

"Georgia doesn't need one more headache. We can cooperate with Iran if the prices are low, but the cooperation should be a short-term one," he said.

Azerbaijani, Georgian and Turkish experts are discussing the gas deal in Baku in Dec 13-14, APA reports.
