Do you prefer large plates and cups? Then forget about pretty forms and healthy lifestyles!

British scientists now know exactly what causes people to overeat.

Examining the results of more than six dozen diet studies that involved a total of over 6,700 volunteers, the scientist came to the conclusion that using large plates makes us eat more.

Large plates and cups make us believe that the portions of food and drinks are much smaller than they are.

That’s why specialists believe that people need to refuse to use large plates, as portion size has a big effect on the amount of calories they consume.

What is your preference?

Tasty national meals are something that we cannot deny ourselves. The case is quite 'hazardous' in Azerbaijan, with its magical cuisine. So, take care in your preference in differentiating between small or large plates.

Today, under the influence of world trends, Azerbaijanis also used to use large-sized dishes, both at home and in restaurants. But, this was not always the case.

In Azerbaijan, like in Japan culture, people also used small-sized dishes for food, which stopped them from eating more than they needed.

For instance, the ancient tea glass known as “armudu stakan”, which resembles a pear with its wide top and bottom and narrow "waist." This glass is small in size, and even two or three sips from emptying the entire glass.

This pear-shaped cup is still used in many Azerbaijani families that seek to maintain ancient customs and traditions.

Tea from an armudu glass is also an indispensable part of matchmaking. The answer to a wedding proposal from the future bride’s family is given by tea served in this traditional glass. If the tea taken to the table is sweet, the families can prepare for a wedding.

Masqura, a small bowl intended for drinking water or storage, is also an example of the national dishware that is presented on Azerbaijani tables. In Central Asia, people usually use it for drinking tea, while in Azerbaijan people put kefir in it. Medium-size masquras are well-suited for first courses like soups.

During the study, the specialists also revealed that the move to small dishes helps reduce the calorie intake by 29 percent. Thus people will be able to drop weight gradually, without causing harm to health.

By the way, some specialists claim that eating while sitting on the floor is very useful to control your appetite, as in this position, the stomach take such a form that it cannot take in lot of food.

Like in many Asian cultures, consuming food sitting on the floor was also typical for Azerbaijanis. The floor was covered with a tablecloth and the family sat around it. And no matter how much food was on the plate, this sitting position allowed people to know when to stop.

Take care of your dishes and stay slim!
