Netherlands to open embassy in Azerbaijan

Netherlands' Cabinet of Ministers has decided to set up the embassy in Baku.
Spokesperson for the foreign ministry Aad Meijer told Trend News over phone from the Hague.

Dutch foreign minister Maxime Verhagen proposed to open the embassy.

The embassy will operate for Dutch companies and deal with energy cooperation. Dutch ambassador will work in close contact with other EU ambassadors to Baku, as well as embassies in Tbilisi and Ankara. Candidates for the post of ambassador is being discussed. Azerbaijani embassy to Netherlands was set up in 2007. Azerbaijan's current ambassador to Netherlands is Fuad Iskenderov.

Turnover between Azerbaijan and Netherlands hit $17.8 million in January-April 2009.
