Azerbaijani volleyball team beats Croatia, reaches Euro-2011 playoffs - PHOTOS

The women’s national team of Azerbaijan in volleyball held their third and final match in the group stage of the final stage of the European championship in Italian Monza yesterday.

Croatians were the opponents. The match, in which the Azerbaijani team,  was to win 3-0 or 3-1, which ended in a victory of our team. The final score was 3-1 (27-15, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18).

This victory allowed the Azerbaijani team to reach the next stage of the tournament. In another match of Group B Turkey beat Italy 3-2.

Final standings in Group B

1. Italy – 7 points,  the set gap 8-4
2. Turkey – 5, 6-6
3. Azerbaijan – 3, 5-7
4. Croatia – 3, 4-6

Azerbaijan beats Croatia thanks to the best gap in sets. By taking the third place, the Azerbaijani national team will play in the match for reaching the quarterfinal with the second of group D, Holland. The match is to be held in Monza on 27 September. In the quarterfinal the match winner is to play with Italy which is first in Group B.
