Azerbaijan`s President attends solemn opening of 16th Boxing World Championship in Baku - PHOTOS

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev yesterday attended a solemn opening of the 16th Boxing World Championships in the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex in Baku. The Head of State was warmly welcomed by the participants of the ceremony.

The Championships, to be held from September 26 to October 8, will bring together 570 boxers from 113 countries. The Championships will also have a particular significance as the first major qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Addressing the ceremony Azerbaijan`s youth and sports Minister Azad Rahimov, president of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Ching-Kuo Wu and president of Azerbaijan Boxing Federation Kamaleddin Heydarov spoke of the importance of the Championships and wished successes to boxers.
