Former Saint-Etienne Football Legend Rachid Makhloufi Passes Away at 89

Former Saint-Etienne football star Rashid Mekloufi, who also represented the Algerian national team, has passed away at the age of 89, as announced by the press service of the club, Azernews reports.

Mekloufi is remembered as one of Saint-Etienne’s top scorers, ranking second in the club's history with an impressive 152 goals. During his time with the team, he clinched the French championship and national cup titles four times, leaving a lasting legacy in French football.

Makhloufi is considered one of the brightest stars of Saint-Etienne in France. After his football career ended as a player in 1970, he moved to the world of coaching, where he supervised the Algerian national team, with whom he won the gold medal in the Mediterranean Games in 1975 in Algeria at the expense of France (3/2 after time). Additional), and the gold medal at the African Games in 1978 by defeating Nigeria 1-0.

The deceased was also a member of the technical staff of the Algerian national team in the 1982 World Cup finals in Spain.
