Barcelona has resumed its bid to tie Leo Messi down to a new contract. According to Catalan TV channel 'TV3', the new 'Azulgranas' president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has begun talks with Jorge Messi, Lionel's father and agent.
The Catalan giants are keen to extend the Argentine striker's deal and make him the best-paid player in the world. By doing so, the board is eager to draw a line under the controversial remarks questioning a possible new contract made by the club's financial vice-president, Javier Faus.
The 'Azulgranas' star has proven that he is in excellent shape following his return from Argentina, where he went to recover from his injury. Tata Martino considers him vital on the pitch, while the club has insisted that the best player in the world should also be the best paid.
