“Roundtable” on prevention of domestic violence held in Azerbaijan`s Goygol region

A “roundtable meeting” on the role of local communities in prevention of domestic violence and abuse was co-organized in Goygol region of Azerbaijan by the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and OSCE Office in Baku.

The meeting brought together members of municipalities of Goygol and neighboring regions, representatives of NGOs and law-enforcement bodies. Addressing the meeting, Deputy Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, Sadagat Gahramanova briefed the participants on the importance of the law on prevention of domestic violence. She described the “roundtable meeting” as a next step towards popularization of this law.

John MacGregor, the Head of Politico-Military Unit of the OSCE Office praised what had been done in Azerbaijan to prevent domestic violence. He also put forward some proposals to strengthen the fight against domestic violence.
