220-ha poppy plantation found in Azerbaijan

A poppy seed plantation was found in Yardimli region of Azerbaijan.

Local police said Southern Regional Department of the Interior Ministry’s Office to combat drugs and Yardimli regional police conducted operational searches under the code name “Khashkhash-2011” and found 220-ha poppy seed plantation with 71 225 wilding poppy bushes (total weight 24 228 kg) in Arvana village of Yardimli region. The plantation was found in the area known as “Alvan”.

The poppy bushes were burned.
