Director of Literature Institute: Attempts to introduce Nizami as Persian are absurd

13 June 2011 [21:30] - TODAY.AZ
"The view that Nizami Ganjavi is not an Azerbaijani poet is similar to the view that Baku is not the capital of Azerbaijan. Both of these views are absurd. In terms of birthplace, religion and nation, there is no need to prove that Nizami is Azerbaijani," director of Literature Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Bakir Nabiyev said commenting on the attempts in Iran to introduce Nizami as Persian.

"We can not keep silent. The policy pursued in Iran and Armenia with respect to Nizami was one of the issues raised at the academy’s annual meeting held with participation of President on April 26. Under the special decision of the President, 10-15 days after the meeting, Nizami Ganjavi Scientific Center was established in Ganja with the view of investigating the creative activity of Nizami Ganjavi more profoundly. This Center will be useful in terms of promoting the heritage of Nizami Ganjavi," he said.
