Head of Azerbaijani Public Television: Russian press's accusations regarding Azerbaijan's plagiarized song at Eurovision Song Contest are groundless

17 May 2011 [21:51] - TODAY.AZ
The Russian press's accusations regarding the plagiarized song "Running scared", performed by Azerbaijani representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest, are groundless, the head of the Azerbaijani Public Television Ismail Omarov said at a press conference held together with the winners of Eurovision-2011.

He said that this information is of provocative nature.

"Our victory is so great that no one can throw shadow at it," he said. "This song was allowed to be performed at the contest after the copyright on it was recognized and confirmed."

He thinks disseminating the information that Azerbaijan became the winner of "Eurovision-2011" thanks to petrodollars of the country as anti-national. He said that one can not assess the victory this way.

"Despite the fact that this year Azerbaijan has spent less money on Eurovision contest compared to last year, we were able to win," he said. "The last three years we were always on the verge of victory."
