Two Azerbaijani poaching vessels with more than 500 kilograms of fish sturgeon were detained in the Caspian Sea, Atyrau region interior department spokeswoman Gulnazira Mukhtarova.
"During the joint operation of the interior departments, environmental prosecutors, border guards of the national security committee and other services in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, two Azerbaijani vessels with 18 Azerbaijani citizens were detained. According to preliminary calculations, there were more than 500 kilograms of fish sturgeon in the holds of ships, " regional interior department spokeswoman said.
Mukhtarova also explained that "the detention of poachers, Azerbaijani citizens, was made possible thanks to the overflight by helicopter over the Kazakh part of the Caspian Sea, which clearly showed the location of poaching vessels."
Azerbaijani Consulate General to Aktau deals with solving this issue. It is in contact with the relevant structures of Kazakhstan to determine the fate of Azerbaijani citizens in poaching vessels, the consulate general told Trend today. The Consulate General will shortly submit information about the events to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the diplomatic mission said.
