Court hearing on criminal group associated with Al-Qaeda held in Baku

Judge Aflatun Qasimov, presiding over the process, told Novosti-Azerbaijan that three officials of the Azerbaijan's Ministry of National Security were interrogated as witnesses.

"The testimonies of victims: residents of Lenkoran region Adil Mamedov, Kamran Abdullayev and capital residents Ayten Quliyev, Abbas Hasanov and Samed Mamedov were heard after it. On the whole, the court has to interrogate over 40 victims. They will all be heard during the next sessions", said the judge.

The court hearing was private, with no journalists allowed in.

It should be reminded that The Azerbaijan Court of Grave Crimes held a preliminary session on criminal case of several persons, accused of cooperation with terrorist organizations Al-Qaeda and Al-Jihad, says a source from the court.

The accused are citizen of Arabian origin Abu Jafar, Telman Abdullayev, Vidadi Kerimov, Adil Qarakhanov, Vitali Aghamamedov, Asef Hasanov, Sanial Abuyev, Rafael Rahimov, Elchin Alimirzoyev, Mirza Babayev, Gedir Hajiyev, Vugar Aliyev, Emin Jami, Loghman Muradov, Habil Masmaliyev and Perviz Kerimov.

The aforementioned persons are charged under articles 315.2 (resistance of life-threatening violence against government representative), 228.2.1. (illegal purchase, transfer, sale, storing, transportation or carrying of guns, components, missiles, explosives by a group of persons in preliminary agreement), 279.2 (attack of enterprises, institutions, organizations or individuals within armed formations or groups, not envisioned by the legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The court is presided by judge Aflatun Qasimov.

It should be noted that in the result of operation, carried out by officials of the Ministry of National Security, Abu Jafar, cooperating with terrorist organization Al-Qaeda and Al-Jihad, and several other persons were detained. By arriving in Azerbaijan, they created an armed grouping from among people, who had previously been active participants of illegal militarized groups in various conflict areas and radical vahhabists.

During Telman Abdullayev's detainment, he showed resistence, wounding two policemen.

The following was revealed from criminals, as well as their flats and cashes: a submachine gun, 3 guns, a sawn-off gun, 12 grenades, 11 fuses, 1075 grams of TNT, 4 meters of safety fuse, 91 detonators, 4 gun chargers, 4 magazines, 25 shells, about 600 submachine gun shells, 3 special lanterns, 2 compasses, a sign rocket, an electric device, map of Sumgayit and so on.
