As of January 1 of 2008, the population of Azerbaijan made up 8,630,000 people, which is a 1.1% rise, as compared to the previous year.

The due information was provided by chairman of the State Statistical Committee Arif Veliyev during a press conference by results of 2007 today.
He said men make up 4,253,000 and women 4,377,000 people of the whole population.
He noted that 152,000 children were born last year which is by 3.1 times higher as compared to 2006.
53,700 people died in Azerbaijan in 2007, which is by 1500 people higher, as compared to 2006.
A.Veliyev reported that 81,600 marriages were recorded in the country in 2007, which is by 2,200 marriages higher, as compared to 2006.
There were 8,300 divorces in the country in 2007 which is by 500 divorces higher, as compared to 2006.
