Taisiya Gordeyeva, human rights activist and deputy chairman of the Committee of Mothers of Soldiers, intends to appeal to the OSCE and Council of Europe with a request to protect convicted military men.
She said she will introduce her proposals to the Baku offices of these international organizations for the purpose.
"Military men are a legally vulnerable social group. The court decision on the families of retired officers from the Perikishkul settlement has not been executed since 2002. Over 2600 soldiers are imprisoned for desertion.
The OSCE currently monitors judicial trials in cooperation with the Council of Europe, which plays a great role in the objectiveness of such court examinations. I want to propose them to monitor trials of military men, especially those who were taken captives, as no one protect them.
Judges must be brought to responsibility for their mistakes, but no one has ever been punished since 2000 under article 295 for adoption of a false court decision. Those soldiers, who are declared deserters, are eager to serve in the army! We do not have deserters at all. People escape not from the army service but from being harassed by officers and from unbearable conditions", Taisiya Gordeyeva said.
