Azerbaijani President presents condolences to Farman Salmanov's family

President Ilham Aliyev has presented condolences to geologist Farman Salmanov's family on his death.

The Head of State said that famous statesman and public figure, oil specialist, great researcher Farman Salmanov has a special place in oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan and Russia and fuel-energy complex of the whole world. Characterising Farman Salmanov as a person devoting his life and activity to his people and his profession – research of oil and gas resources of the planet president Ilham Aliyev offered condolences to his relatives on his death.

Famous geologist Farman Salmanov died at the age of 76, of long-lasting disease on March 31 in Moscow. He will be buried in Vagankov cemetery in Moscow tomorrow.

Governor of Tumen province Vladiir Yakushev and Tumen province government also offered condolences to Farman Salamnov’s relatives on his death, APA reports.

Farman Salamnov was born in the village of Morul of Shamkir region in 1928 and worked as geologist in Novosibirsk geology department, head geologist, chief of oil exploration expedition in 1954-1959, chief of Surgut oil exploration expedition in Tumen geology department in 1959-1962, deputy chief of head geology Department in Ust-Balik in 1962-1964, Pravdinsk in 1964-1970 and Tumen in 1970-1978, chief of Headtumengeology in 1978-1987.

Great scientist was deputy Geology Minister of USSR in 1987-1991. He became president of Rospan International CJSC in 1992. Salmanov had been advisor of Board of Chairmen Itera oil-gas Company since 2002.

Farman Salmanov was the first scientist to explore oil wells in Western Siberia in 1961 which was claimed to have no oil resources. He explored over 120 oil wells in western Siberia. He was awarded Lenin laureate prize (1966), Hero of Socialist Labor (1971).

Salmanov was graduated from Azerbaijan Oil Academy, became the doctor of geology-mineralogy in 1972 and had been correspondent member of Russian Academy of Sciences since 1989. Hydrocarbon resources in Western Siberia, Ust-Balik, Surgut, Salimss, Provdinsk, Verxne-Salimsk, Mamontovsk, Samotlor, Urengoy, Bovanenkovsk were explored under his leadership. After the exploration of these wells USSR became one of the largest oil producers and gas exporters beginning from the 80s of last century.

Azerbaijani engineers played important role in the development of oil and gas industry of Russia. The Azerbaijani geologist is the author of over 100 scientific works on oil and gas exploration, production and exploitation. A lot of books, articles were written about Farman Salmanov and two films were made about him.
