Afsat Afsatov: "I will never work for Azerbaijan national team"

07 December 2006 [15:03] - TODAY.AZ
"I had normal relations with the president of Power lifting Federation Jahangir Askerov. But in fact Vice-president Vahid Nazarov had all the authority. Though I was head coach, Nazarov interfered in the national team. Therefore I could not be head coach of the national team any more. Besides, my contract period finished. That's why I left Azerbaijan," Afsat Afsatov, former head coach of Azerbaijan national team, who is in Dagestan at the moment.

He said some people did not want him to achieve success.

"Afsat Afsatov was always against me. As to the level of training it has never been low. I will never work for Azerbaijan national team. We will see what results they will show. Nazarov's aim was to destroy the national team and to be head coach. To remove me from the team Nazarov and his men pursued very disgusting policy," he said.

Afsat Afsatov also spoke about the banned medical preparation found in Nizami Pashayev's blood.

"I have known Nizami for 10 years. I respect him. I was shocked when I heard that banned medical preparation was found in his blood. We did not have such problems before Vahid. Scandals began with his coming. Nizami Pashayev played a great role in the recognition of Azerbaijan’s sport in the world. And who is Nazarov? What has he done?" he said. He also touched upon the change in Turan Mirzayev's mass.

"Turan changed his mass on Vahid Nazarov's instructions. He did not want the national team to achieve a success. If there were results, he would not overcome me," Afsat Afsatov said.

Afsat Afsatov said Russian national team and Turkmenistan made him a proposition and added that he can work everywhere.

Rejecting Afsat Afstaov’s accusations Nazarov said that Afsat Afsatov was dismissed for the low level of the training in the team, banned medical preparations found in the blood of the sportsmen and president of Power lifting Federation Jahangir Askerov's warnings.

As to the banned medical preparations found in Nizami's blood, he himself confessed it.
