Nizami Abdullayev: "Haji Mammadov was forced to kill Rovshan Aliyev"

26 September 2006 [19:49] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's Court of Grave Crimes today continued the trial of the gang led by Haji Mammadov, former high ranking official of the Interior Ministry Crime Investigation Department.

In today's hearing, defendant Nizami Abdullayev responded to questions of public prosecutors. Public prosecutor Bashir Jafarov reminded his testimony on the cruel murder of department chief of Office to Fight Narcotic Drugs Azer Ismayilov and asked whether Elchin Aliyev was there. Abdullayev called his testimony to the investigation his own imagination. "I thought if I bore false testimony to the investigation I would be able to give a right testimony in the trial. I told Elchin while confronting him that he was in Mammadov's house when Azer Ismayilov was murdered."

The defendant said Haji Mammadov's extra-marital partner Naila Guliyeva was not involved in the murder of Azer.

Abdullayev answered questions on the murder of criminalist Rovshan Aliyev. "When Haji said we were to murder Rovshan Aliyev I protested against this. Haji also admitted that he did not want to do that but he was forced. My part in this case was only to follow Rovshan," the defendant said.

Abdullayev also said he was not involved in the murder of Zamira Hajiyeva, International Bank of Azerbaijan Managing Staff chief Jahangir Hajiyev's wife.

The trial hearing will continue on September 27, APA reports.
