US scientists say Caspian Sea radioactive elements' level normal

Scientists of Geology Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Science (GIANAS) proceed researches dealing with nutrients of the Caspian Sea together their colleagues from Wayne State University, U.S.

The Institute press service told the APA they study spreading of nutrients in the Caspian Sea. These researches are realized within the project of "Estimation of submarine discharge of ground water and nutrients in the coastal waters of the Caspian Sea, adjoining Azerbaijan using isotopes."

This year in May the scientists of GIANAS and Wayne State University have taken joint researches on the mouth of the Kyur River. Initially, spreading of radioactive elements in the Caspian Sea was studied. The results were analyzed in the U.S and Azerbaijan and in September and were discussed widely at the meeting of scientists at Wayne State University. During the meeting it was noted that, the level of radioactive elements in the Caspian Sea is normal. Such elements may harm nutrients. However, there is not such a danger at the moment.

Next year the researches will be proceeded on the Gudyalchay, the Gusarchay and the Vilashchay. Such actions are carried out on the Azerbaijan Caspian sector for first time. The project that is being talked about, was established by GIANAS and Wayne State University with support of the U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation. The execution of the project will end in 2007.
