First international Russian book festival coming to end in Baku

The first international Russian book festival is coming to an end in the Azerbaijanian capital.

Some festival participants will hold meetings with readers in Azerbaijan's regions on Saturday. They will visit the Azerbaijanian ancient capital of Shemakha, as well as the Guba and Khachmas regions in the north of Azerbaijan where representatives of a number of national minorities are compactly living, Itar-Tass learnt at the organizing committee.

Other festival participants will meet with teachers and students of the Baku Slavonic University, which is one of the biggest propaganda centres of Russian culture and literature in the South Caucasus.

Besides, a round-table meeting devoted to the connection of times in Russian and Azerbaijanian literature will be held within the framework of the festival.

At the same time, the festival township, where residents of Baku and guests of the city will continue to familiarize themselves with new publications of in the Russian language, will work in the National Park on the coast of the Caspian Sea till late at night.

The closing ceremony of the festival and a concert of masters of art of Azerbaijan will be held in the festival township.

The Russian side is expected to transfer about 15,000 books, the greater part of which is intended for the National Library of the country, to Azerbaijan.

The Federal Press and Mass Communications Agency, the news agency ITAR-TASS and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan are the organizers of the festival.
