Azeri powerlifters succeeded in European Cup

Powerlifting European Cup, which brought together 500 athletes from 13 countries, has ended in Tolyatti, Russia.

Seven of eight Azerbaijani athletes led by President of Azerbaijan Powerlifting Federation and chief coach Aladdin Aliyev achieved a success in the competition.

Rufat Agayev (125kg), fourfold European champion, world championship silver medallist took the first place on bench press, squat 1.5 and dead lift to claim the Cup. European champion Rustam Musayev (67kg) ranked 2nd with 550 kg.

In the bench press, Zamir Mammadov (67kg), Bayram Aliyev (75kg), world and European champion Vusal Mardanov (100kg) ranked 1st with 130,5 kg, 185 kg, and 267,5 kg respectively. Sarkhan Aliyev (75kg) ranked 2nd with 180 kg, while Ibrahim Ibrahimov (100kg), fourfold European champion the 3rd with 255 kg.

In the team event, Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan took the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd spots respectively.

Azerbaijani athletes have already won two gold and one bronze medals at the May 2006 European Powerlifting Championship in France.
