Bulent Gurcam to nominate candidacy to World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC) chairman post

19 August 2006 [09:36] - TODAY.AZ
"I decided to resign from the World Azerbaijanis Congress Assembly membership and representative office in Belgium to which I was appointed in the 8th Congress in Stockholm because of the Congress’s contradicting activity towards Azerbaijan Diaspora failure in coordination works," Bulent Gurcam, Belgium-Azerbaijan House chairman and WAC member told the journalists.

He said he will nominate candidacy to WAC chairman post in the 9th congress of WAC in Brussels, APA reports.

"The reason for my resigning is that the Congress fails to take joint action with any of regional representative offices. WAC chairman willful behavior and the congress’s activity contradicts itself. WAC Baku office holds media conferences without informing officials. Baku office spread disinformation about permission for erection a monument on Khojali genocide in Brussels. Besides, Belgium-Azerbaijan House which I lead has no information about it, and the explanations given by WAC chairmanship is far from the truth. I resign from this post before the world Azerbaijanis, but I am still WAC member. I will nominate my candidacy to WAC chairman post in a special conference to be held in Belgium on December 9, 10, 11," Bulent Gurcam said.

He said he tries to unite the Congress and advocates moving its main office to Brussels.

“This step will serve to establishment of the congress and its successful activity.

"Belgium-Azerbaijan House' is fully in WAC’s disposal, and I assure you that our compatriots will not have any problems in Brussels" he added.
