Mehriban Aliyeva: "Azerbaijan can be a model of high level tolerance"

Azerbaijan can be a model of high level tolerance for all world countries, Mehriban Aliyeva, the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, stated.

As Trend reports, this statement was made at the international conference "Azerbaijan: dialogue among civilizations yesterday and today", organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Academy of Latin Culture.

Mrs. Aliyeva related the organization of such an important conference in Baku with positive role of Azerbaijan in the development of dialogues among the world cultures.

Located on the Great Silk Route for many centuries, Azerbaijan has always been a place of tolerance and union of different of cultures. Mrs. Aliyeva voiced her confidence that Azerbaijan would hence play a positive role in this sphere. It is necessary to carry out some important events in the country for conduct of dialogue in the world and education and culture ought to take major part in this sphere.

"People, who respect its culture and history, will also respect the culture and history of other nations," the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, stated.

"Xenophobia, fascism and sense of hatred to another nation are dangerous for the mankind. I can state with proud that Azerbaijan can be a model of high level tolerance for other countries," she underlined.

"Mosques, synagogues and churches coexist peaceably, representatives of any nation are equal member citizens of Azerbaijan, the President of the Foundation stated. From this aspect, organization of such conference in Baku and its results will greatly contribute to the development of dialogue among the civilizations and cultures," she assured.

In his remarks the Secretary of the Academy of the Latin Culture, Candido Mendesa, noted that his organization is happy with the level of tolerance in Azerbaijan, the government's policy in this sphere. The management of the Academy supports and estimates the role of the Azerbaijani intelligentsia in this issue. "We are for resolution of all problems through dialogue and rhetoric of intelligentsia," he underlined.

Organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Academy of Latin Culture the 13th forum brings together 140 delegates from many world countries. The prince of Jordan and the President of the Rome Club, Hassan Bil Talal, UNESCO assistance director on social and humanitarian issues, Jerome Binden, outstanding scientists, religious figures, as well as Azerbaijani government officials are in presence.

The 3-day forum will take reports on the place and role of Azerbaijan, a well as the Caucasus in the world in the context of mutual relationships and culture relationships, belonging to different religions and languages, in the period of globalization, similarity and difference of different cultures, hold discussions and exchange of opinion on different issues.

During stay in Baku the participants in the Baku conference will also get closely familiar with the Azerbaijani national culture, history and monuments.

The Academy of Latin Culture, the Central Office located in Rio-de-Janeiro, Brazil, is an authoritative body uniting the world renowned scientific, literature and culture figures involved in the Latin culture. Federik Mayor is the general director of UNESCO.

Previous conference of the Academy dedicated to Islam and Latin Culture was held in Tehran.
