AFFA to send recommendation to UEFA for holding the match with Armenia in a neutral stadium

Meeting of Executive Committee (EC) has been held on the headquarters of AFFA today. EC members discussed the issue that our national team would play against Armenia in selection group stage of European Championship 2008.

As APA reports, it was decided to hold the match between Azerbaijani and Armenian teams in a neutral stadium. They will appeal to UEFA on this issue.

Then it was stated by UEFA, that it's up to Azerbaijani and Armenian teams to decide to meet in neutral country.

Georgian Football Federation (GFF) offered to hold the match between Azerbaijani and Armenian teams in Tbilisi in the framework of qualifying stage of European Championship 2008.

Vise-president of GFF Goga Kaftaridze told the media of the country that the suggestion would be sent to Yerevan and Baku in the nearest future.

G.Kavtaradze also noted that it could be dangerous to organize the qualifying matches in Azerbaijan and Armenia which have strained relations.

Moldavian press writes that the heads of the football federations of Azerbaijan and Armenia discussed the issue on holding the match between the national teams in a neutral stadium. The Azerbaijani side is reported to have suggested Moldova as a neutral country.

Secretary General of AFFA Fuad Asadov told APA that AFFA had not applied to any country for the match: "As concerns the proposal of Georgians, not everything depends on us. Armenians' agreement is also necessary".

The Head of Press Service of UEFA William Gallas told that the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian teams was expected to be held in both courtiers, currently. The representative of UEFA also stated that the match might be held in a neutral stadium: "It is up to Azerbaijani and Armenian teams to decide where to meet. The match might be held in a neutral stadium and it is up to the heads of national authorities to come to an agreement. If there is no agreement, UEFA will make the final decision. The match might also be held in Yerevan and Baku".
