Age limit for senior Armed Forces officers may see prolongation in Azerbaijan

It is proposed to extend age limit for active military service of senior officers in peacetime in Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani Parliament told that in this regard, a group of parliamentarians are expected to discuss the amendments to the article #16 of the law “On military service”.

According to the amendments, it is proposed to set 50-year age limit for majors, lieutenant colonels and officers with appropriate ranks, 55-year age limit for colonels and officers with appropriate ranks. 60-year age limit is considered for major generals, rear admirals, general lieutenants, vice admirals and 65-year age limit for colonel generals and admirals. The draft law is planned to be discussed next year.

A valid article is as follows: “Age limit for military service in the peacetime is determined:

For servicemen of compulsory military service – age of 37;

For servicemen, warrant officers and midshipmen of extended service – age of 45;

For junior rank officers – age of 48;

For senior officers:

Major, Lieutenant-Colonel and officers with appropriate ranks – age of 48;

Colonel and officers with relevant military ranks – age of 53;

For general officers:

Major general, rear admiral, lieutenant-general, vice admiral – age of 58;

colonel-general and admirals – age of 63;

Age limit isn’t determined for army general.”
