Azerbaijan joins anti-corruption meeting in Paris

A delegation of Azerbaijan led by head of the Presidential Administration`s department for law-enforcement bodies Fuad Alasgarov attended the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development`s high-level meeting "Reinforcing political will to fight corruption in Eastern Europe and Central Asia" in Paris.

The delegation of Azerbaijan is comprised of secretary of the commission for the fight against corruption Vusal Huseynov, chief of the anti-corruption department at the General Prosecutor`s Office Kamran Aliyev and department's senior prosecutor Elnur Musayev.

Speaking to the first session, Fuad Alasgarov provided information about anti-corruption reforms, adding President Ilham Aliyev demonstrated political will to eliminate corruption, increase transparency in public administration in order to ensure sustainable economic development in the country.

He pointed out that the criminal legislation was improved and brought in line with international standards over implementation of the national anti-corruption strategy. He noted the progress achieved by Azerbaijan towards implementation of the convention against corruption is internationally appreciated. Alasgarov told of the activity and successes of the anti-corruption department at the General Prosecutor`s Office and commission for the fight against corruption.

He touched upon introduction of information and communication technologies in public administration, and establishment of the State Agency for Social Innovations and Service to Citizens and ASAN service center, which serve to reduce contacts between citizens and officials.
The delegation of Azerbaijan had meetings with leadership of the OECD, deputy director of the Lithuania`s Special Inquiry Service, Georgia`s Justice Minister, Deputy Justice Minister of Romania and others.

The delegation distributed brochures on the fight against corruption in Azerbaijan to event participants. The meeting wrapped up with adoption of the declaration.
