Umid PA carries out environmental projects at schools

Public Association for Social Development "Umid" ("Hope") carried out a project to rehabilitate sewage systems, install water treatment filters and create environmental corners in schools No. 297, 298, 300 and 301 of the Binagadi district of Baku.

 In the course of its implementation, with the financial support of the Coca-Cola Foundation, poorly maintained water-sewage systems were replaced by new ones, major bathroom repairs took place, drinking water lines got equipped with pollution control filters, and educational "green zone." established.

Moreover, educational activities aimed at the development of environmental education of students were organized. In particular, "The water we drink," "Drink clean water," "Water - the basis of life” booklets were distributed.

"We are grateful to UMID NGO and Coca-Cola Foundation for the implementation of this important and large-scale social project and look forward to further cooperation." - said the head of social-economical department of the Binagadi Regional Executive Power, Agil Eyvazov.

Training, carried out in the framework of “For a clean and healthy environment” project, let students learn more about the ecology and the environment, nature conservation, pollution threats, importance of clean water. It had a positive impact on students’ views on nature and generally on environmental education ", - says the instructor of the Public Association "Umid", Sabir Mammadov.

"With this project, we've got a very important to us "live lab" for practical training in Nature class, which is important for students’ effective understanding of the training material and in terms of students' love for nature," - said the deputy director of the school ? 297 Lala Guliyeva.


During the meetings with students, “Friends of Coca-Cola” groups were created, the rules and activity directions of those groups approved. Overall, activities involved about 500 people. With the implementation of the project, schools are provided with uninterrupted water supply now. External sewage systems in school #298 were fully replaced, and partially in schools #300 and #301.

In total, 14 bathrooms were renovated, water tanks and water pumps installed. In each of the schools "green corners" were created with the total area of 30 square meters, planted with trees and shrubs, water purification filters installed in school cafeterias, and additional water lines in the appropriate places to be used by students.
