Teachers aged over 65 dismissed in Azerbaijan

10 September 2012 [11:37] - TODAY.AZ
The majority of the teachers and principals have been dismissed since the previous academic year, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov told journalists.

According to him, the legislation allowed the continuation of work for only 2% of the workers over 65 years old: “It is a humanist step. Our aim is not to dismiss employees, who have reached 65 years but to choose the ones who are responsible and loyal to the education system in Azerbaijan. I believe that before the dismissals, we must think about the employees. If a person is serving adequately to the people of Azerbaijan, he or she should be dismissed.”

The minister said that the issue on awarding teachers with the status of civil servants is also underway.
