Seven persons accused of corruption flee Azerbaijan

The Department to Combat Corruption under Prosecutor General conducted introductory investigations of 141 criminal cases in the first half of 2012, 82 criminal cases on 160 persons were sent to the court for consideration, chief of the Department to Combat Corruption under Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said at the press conference today.

According to him, 41 cases on 98 persons were sent to court of grave crimes, 41 cases on 62 persons were sent to district (city) courts.

Those criminal cases were related most of all to bribe taking (passive bribery), abuse of office, negligence, spendthrifting, swindle and the other facts.

The judicial and physical persons were compensated for damage in amount of AZN 7, 484, 241 at the stage of introductory investigation on 82 criminal cases sent to the court.

Aliyev noted that 104 operational tasks received by the department were fulfilled, 14 of 21 wanted persons were detained and handed to investigation. It was determined that 7 wanted persons left the country and the operational search actions are carried out for their detention.
