Scientists make important discovery about Azerbaijan’s ancient history

04 June 2012 [17:04] - TODAY.AZ
The Institute of Manuscripts under the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) found manuscript proving that Turkic-speaking population lived in both the south and the north of Azerbaijan, Director of the Institute Pasha Karimov told Trend.

He said the discovered manuscripts are the scientific and historical and geographical works relating to the Middle Ages. They also reflect the information that north and south of Azerbaijan was united.

"Even before Islam, and in the first period of its existence it was in his way. Sometimes chauvinists say that the north - is Aran, and south - is Azerbaijan. This is misconception. The scientific, historical, geographical writings of the Middle Ages also indicated that and north and south together called Azerbaijan. We found manuscripts that prove it, and soon we will issue them, " Karimov said.

He noted that the catalogs of other countries’ libraries own about 12,000 manuscripts belonging to Azerbaijan. But in fact, the figure is much more. Since, in many countries the libraries not compiled a catalog of manuscripts, so it is impossible to determine the exact number of manuscripts belonging to Azerbaijan.

"For example, the libraries of Turkey’s major cities compiled a catalog of manuscripts. But some cities of Turkey, many cities of Iran, India and Afghanistan lack such libraries and catalogs.”
