“The monitoring in the Gobustan National Park showed 150-180 m crack with 10-30 m visible depth and 1-2 m width created in smooth vault of Small Stone Mountain anticline range”, Chief Engineer of the Complex Hydro-Geology and Engineering Geology Expedition Shaig Niftiyev reported.
The mountain is located in the territory of the Gobustan National Historic Park. Heavy precipitation, ravine erosion in the Small Stone Mountain region, surface ablation and little landslide process were regularly activated in the area during January-March.
Niftiyev made some proposals for the prevention of cracking in the Small Stone Mountain. He said one needs to remove limestone layers in the south-eastern part of the mountain. “The ravine should be reinforced by the metal lath and all geological processes should be researched regularly”.
