Azerbaijan`s Ombudsman Institute and United Nations Children`s Fund, UNICEF have signed an action plan on human rights for 2012. The document was signed by Azerabaijani Ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova and head of the UNICEF Office in Baku Mark Herevard.
Prior to the signing of the document, Suleymanova had conversation with Herevard. The Ombudsperson said last year President Ilham Aliyev approved the National Action Program to increase efficiency of defense of human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan. She noted government bodies and NGOs regularly hold events to discuss mechanisms for implementation of tasks resulting from the Program.
Herevard, in turn, praised the progress made in Azerbaijan to protect children`s rights. He said the action plan signed would contribute to expansion of relations between UNICEF and Ombudsman Institute.
