Baku Airport forced to cancel flights - UPDATE

If weather conditions do not allow the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to receive the aircrafts, they will be accepted by alternate airports,  Azerbaijan Railways (AZAL) spokesman Maharram Safarli said.

He said earlier the Heydar Aliyev International Airport failed to receive the  Kazan-Baku flight of Tatarstan Airlines. The plane was supposed to arrive in Baku at 10:50 local time, but due to bad weather it landed at the Makhachkala airport. The plane en route from London to Baku landed in Tehran. The airport cancelled flights from Tbilisi, Tehran, Ganja and Nakhchivan.

Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport canceled a number of flights Wednesday morning due to bad weather conditions in Azerbaijani capital, an airport employee told Trend.

Flights to Ganja (departure time 9:55 am), Tbilisi (departure time 10:10 am) and Tehran (departure time 10:35 am) carried out by small ATR 72 and ATR 42 airliners were canceled.

In addition, BD 928 London-Baku flight (arrival time 7:35 am) was unable to land and went to the alternate airport in Tehran. Severe storm began early Wednesday morning in Baku.
