
Roughly five new stations and an electric depot are planned to be constructed on a new line of Baku Metro up to 2015. Three new stations and a depot will be constructed as well on the second line. Eight new stations should be launched into operation up to 2015, a source in Baku Metro reported.
The state program also envisages the construction of second exits to a number of stations, the car fleet renewal, use of new technologies in the underground, bringing the number of wagons to 7 by increasing the length of platform at the new lines, purchase of modern equipment for the continuous electricity supply, improving the regulatory framework, etc.
Today, Baku Metro networks cover 22 stations and 33 kilometers of underground steel tracks rails. The average annual volume of passenger traffic increased to 175 million passengers. A big metro network will be created by 2030. All these works will be carried out in stages.
