EU imposes new sanctions on five Russians over support for military-industrial complex

07 August 2026 [18:51] - TODAY.AZ

The European Union on August 7 imposed new sanctions on five Russian individuals accused of supporting the country’s military-industrial complex, in response to intensified Russian strikes against Ukraine, AzerNEWS reports, citing the Council of the EU.

According to the Council, the five individuals hold senior positions at Russian companies operating in the defense and military technology sectors. These firms are involved in the development, production and supply of military equipment used by Russian armed forces in the war in Ukraine.

Among those sanctioned is Ramil Badgutdinov, CEO of Serpukhov Metallist Plant, a Russian company involved in the production of precision electromechanical components, including systems used in Russia’s Iskander-M ballistic missile.

The EU also added Alexander Dyukarev, CEO of Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant, which is involved in the production of ballistic missile systems, including the RS-28 Sarmat.

The Council said the other sanctioned individuals include executives of Russian companies involved in producing military communications systems and developing software for unmanned aerial vehicles and space-related military technologies.

Under the sanctions regime, the assets of the designated individuals are frozen, while EU citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds or economic resources available to them, either directly or indirectly.

The individuals are also subject to travel bans preventing them from entering or transiting through EU member states.

“Every new attack on Ukraine is another reason for Europe to take tougher measures against Russia,” EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in a post on X.

“Moscow, whose army cannot advance on the battlefield, is intensifying its campaign of terror against civilians. The EU must continue increasing pressure on Russia until Moscow ends its war,” she added.
