Workers go on strike in Iran

About 700 workers have been going on strike in the yard of the Siman Sepahan cement plant in the Iranian city of Isfahan over the past three days, ?LNA agency said today.

According to the information, workers are protesting because the mediating companies have not paid them their salaries.

About 1000 work at the Siman Sepahan plant, with 700 being employed by the mediating companies on the basis of an employment contract. These companies must pay a salary to the workers.

About 100 employees of the information service '118' in the Iranian city of Shiraz have been protesting for five days against some workers' dismissal without explanation, poor working conditions and preparation for new employment contracts.

According to new employment contracts, wages of workers were cut back by $120-130, the report said.

According to Iranian media, workers of some other Iranian plants and factories have said they are holding a rally in connection with the late payment of wages.
