Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has stated that The Wall Street Journal, which quoted him as saying in an interview that Georgia’s hopes for NATO membership are “almost dead”, has apologized to him.
Saakashvili made this statement at a special parliamentary session in response to a question by Christian Democrat Chairman Georgi Tagramadze who strongly criticized president for his words, Interfax reported.

Earlier, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Giga Bokeria said that the remarks of President Saakashvili in an interview with American newspaper had been incorrectly interpreted.

‘In fact, the president said that if Russia blocks Georgia’s NATO accession, it would be a tragedy,” Bokeria said.

On July 19, The Wall Street Journal published an interview with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili. In the interview Saakashvili said that his country’s plans for NATO membership are  “almost dead.”
