EU, Turkey need each other: U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state

The U.S. believes that Turkey's joining EU would promote further reforms due to which Turkey will be more reliable and strong partner, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Matthew Bryza said.

"EU and Turkey need each other. It is important for Turkey to to join EU to stimulate reforms," Bryza said.

Turkey's joining EU will be example for Europe to develop democracy in Muslim world and Middle East, he said.

Reforms are important for Europe in order Turkey to be example of democratic Muslim nation. So, one could see how to conduct reforms in Muslim world important for Europe and Middle East, Bryza said.

During the press-conference Turkish state minister and head of Turkish delegation on Turkey's joining EU, Egemen Bahish, said that Turkey will be an EU member soon. Turkish foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, said that Turkey will be a full EU member soon. "If the EU admits Turkey, Turkey can become the strongest presence in the region," he said.
