Azerbaijan captured two Armenian soldiers

01 June 2009 [09:12] - TODAY.AZ
Two Armenian soldiers were captured by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan.
Today in the afternoon two Armenian soldiers voluntarily transferred to the Azerbaijani side and were captured by the army of Azerbaijan in the Gulustan area of Goranboy region.

According to reliable sources, prisoners told that the cause of their act was poor conditions of soldiers in the Armenian army, in particular, lack of food and violence against younger soldiers in the army.

There are not yet any comments from officials.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
