MP: Cooperation of Azerbaijan and CE is aimed to ensure maximal transparency of democratic principles

He spoke of the aspects he is going to touch upon in the report on the referendum held in Azerbaijan on March 18 during the spring session of PACE on April 27-30.

"The process of the referendum in Azerbaijan was observed by numerous international observers, including from the Council of Europe. They all made a positive assessment on the conducted referendum. Undoubtedly, if presidential elections and referendums in Azerbaijan are observed by international observers who make a positive assessment for these processes, this proves a high level of democracy in Azerbaijan", said Husenov.

According to him, referendum is a national votum, when every person is able to express his opinion and most representatives of the Azerbaijani public approved the introduction of amendments to the Constitution of the country. Cooperation of Azerbaijan and CE is aimed to ensure maximal transparency of democratic principles.

As for the Karabakh conflict, he said PACE resolution No 1416 on Nagorno Karabakh adopted on January 25 of 2005, can be called a remarkable event and a great success of Azerbaijan in the CE frames.

"The subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh was created for execution of this resolution as a mechanism of control in CE. It was acting quite effectively, yet an interval was recorded in its activity after Lord Russell Johnson's death.

I think at this session we will discuss a plan of measures to improve the work of this subsidiary committee especially in the contect of intensification of the OSCE MG activity. And naturally Azerbaijani delegation will here voice its principal position on the Karabakh conflict", concluded the deputy.
