Presidential elections in Azerbaijan were held in full compliance with the constitution of our country, in line with international commitments and standards of democratic elections, including commitments and standards of OSCE and Council of Europe, said Milli Medjlis deputy Aydin Mirzazade in his interview to Day.Az.

According to him, one of the positive results of elections was that they were held calmly, without complications or any elements of confrontation, in other words, "we have witnessed the positive events, Azerbaijan has been striving for since gaining independence".

As for the announcement of parliamentarian Asim Mollazade that high percentage of votes will neutralize attempts of some state officials who state that they have brought Ilham Aliyev to powers, he said that no one has ever made any statements that Ilham Aliyev or Heydar Aliyev were brought to powers by some officials.

"Both of them have come to power owing to their precise, correct policy, based on the national interests of our country and owing to the support of the Azerbaijani people.

Among numerous advantages of working president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev there is his ability to work in the team, ability to assess a person correctly. Our country is developing successfully under the leadership of Ilham Aliyev, which is proven by the 15 times growth of the Azerbaijani budget. As for the external policy, Azerbaijan has notably turned into a respected partner in the world, a real player, whose opinion is taken into account by superstates. Therefore, our people are lucky to have such a competent and far-seeing leader as Ilham Aliyev".

Speaking of the opposition parties, which boycotted the elections, he said they could hardly reckon on any significant support of voters. He said they could have just shared the small percentage of votes, because by voting for Ilham Aliyev, local voters have chosen stability, development, settlement of problems, facing the society, and not the way of instability, confrontation, which is observed by some post-Soviet states.

According to Mirzazade, the current elections showed that radical opposition in Azerbaijan has been replaced by a constructive one and the upcoming municipal and parliamentary elections will show the degree of people's support to the representatives of the constructive opposition.

Asked how he sees the upcoming five years in Azerbaijan, he said Azerbaijan will continue its confident movement along the path of political stability, new economic achievements, settlement of the remaining social problems of the population.

"I do hope that we will be able to settle the Karabakh conflict in the next five years. I also believe that Azerbaijan will be able to add to the list of the developed countries of the world. Azerbaijan has the due potential and political will. It means that Azerbaijan will be able to reach the set goal", concluded the deputy.
