"Negotiations on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict should continue basing on the work done up to now,” Novruz Mammadov, chief of the Department of Foreign Affairs under President’s Office told APA.

Commenting on whether the presidential elections in Armenia on February 19 will influence the results of the negotiations or not, Novruz Mammadov underlined the necessity of continuing the negotiations, irrespective of the winner of the presidential elections.
“Now Armenia does not need to restart everything and create problems for itself. On the other hand, certain activities have been carried out during the process of negotiations. International community and organizations have been involved in the process. Talks should continue regardless of outcomes of presidential elections in Armenia. It also serves the interests of the Armenian government and people. They have no other alternative. Under the present conditions, ongoing processes in the region and the world have led Armenia into a dead end to some extent. They know that Armenia has no development prospects unless the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is solved. Therefore, the negotiations should continue soon. Azerbaijan does not want to await the solution to the conflict for five more years,” he said.
